Shalom, Salaam, Peace to all of you:
Wow everyone, I think this is the longest I've ever gone without posting. I have successfully finished by first year of graduate school! My program is an MA in Biblical Studies, with a focus on Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). My eventual plans include a PhD somewhere in the wider field in Near Eastern Studies, and a teaching career that could take a number of different directions. At this point, I am leaning toward teaching Biblical Hebrew itself, or working for a Religious Studies department in a state university.
Layla is doing great, even with me being gone more frequently for classes and such. We are blessed to live in a student housing complex with many other kids her age,so I don't think she really resents the fact that she doesn't have any siblings yet!
Our summer plans thus far include lots of reading, swimming lessons, playing outside, a 2-week intensive course of Patristic and Medieval Theology (me), and a 3 week trip to Illinois and Minnesota. What are all your summer plans?
I think I will be taking a slightly different direction with the blog, using it as an accountability tool so I can do more constructive preschool activities with Layla at home this summer.
Hope everyone is doing great!

Layla has really grown! She looks tall. Nice photo of you and good to read an update!
Aw youve been missed. Glad to see things are going well!
Great to have you back! I kept on checking your blog every few weeks to see if you'd decided to come out of hibernation. I hope you have a great summer!
Hey Stacey! Man its so good to have you back; I thought you’d gone for good! Glad you are well and that your studies are going good too! I can only imagine how busy you must be; but do try to drop by more often; you are missed!
I’m back studying too; English language and literature for me! And summer will include road trips through Iran and Azerbaijan, (I married an Iranian last year; and we wanted to travel before we got busy making children!).
BTW, I really miss all your Somalia based posts! Please share more of them or else point me in the direction of some fellow bloggers who can fill that gap!
Take care and hug Layla from me:
