DIY Khaleeji Flower Clip

So today I had a brilliant idea. After seeing other bloggers post about the flower clips that are available in the UAE and elsewhere, I started to want one.
My hair doesn't hold scarves on really well because its pretty slick. Plus, I like the way a hijab looks with a little more lift in back.

I thought about going to a craft store to get some flowers, but then I remembered that they had flowers and clips at the $1 store right by my house. The flowers were pretty easy to take apart and each one had a hole with a little piece of plastic running through the middle. I don't have a hot glue gun, so I planned to use the gorilla glue you see in the first picture. However, I didn't do that and ended up first stringing the flowers together 3 by 3 on some wire twist-ties, then used yarn to tie them onto the clip. You can't see the yarn or the twist-ties on the finished product.

Here is how the clip looked in my hair after I took the hijab off.

And here is my pashmina with a little lift:

And there is Layla in her pyjamas in the background :)

I think I'll wear it tomorrow when I volunteer for the ESL class.

I am useless at this sort of thing and mega impressed by your creativeness. And you are quite right the hidden flowers do give a wonderful amount of 'lift' to your headcovering.

I have been experimenting with first putting my hair up into a high bun and then using two separate scarfs to create a degree of volume - thus avoiding the 'flat-ead' syndrome that I dread (not an attractive look on me).. the first scarf is quite plain and the second is descreetly decorated.

Talking of which - I am loving the colours on your scarf :0D

Very pretty clip, hair and "look" in the scarf!

Cute! I usually pull my hair into a looped ponytail to give it some lift & keep it from escaping. I have the slick hair prob too (I have a ton of hair but its baby fine so it doesn't hold many things well and can slip out of the scarf in odd ways too lol) but found out if I use an underscarf (esp a cotton tube shaped one) then it stays much better. I feel kinda silly putting on the underscarf, but its the only thing that works.

I like it! I would like one because my hair is very short and so there's just nothing going on there at all. I want a normal, scarf-raising bump. I might have to make one of those sometime.

Sakeenah, I know. That's the only downside for me. The clip barely holds all my hair. Should've looked for a bigger one. I guess I can always transfer the flowers to another clip though.

The problem with this flower clip business is that it appears designed to give the impression that one has more hair than one really does. Which kind of defeats the purpose of covering one's hair...

Wow thats really impressive! very creative if you have the patience for that kind of thing. I use my khaleeji clip to help my hijab stay in place as it gives it something to 'sit' on. Ive got a really good quality one from www.queenoftrends.co.uk which was very reasonably priced
