Henna

So I am not very good at drawing in general, but I love henna so much. I've been trying to get better at drawing basic shapes and lines, so here is some recent henna work I did on myself and Layla. One benefit of being kind of ambidexterious is that i can draw on both of my own hands! The last solid flower design on my left hand came out with the darkest color. I got the henna from a local shop that sells spices and produce. It seems to be pretty fresh and doesn't require extra sifting before you mix it.

Needless to say, Layla's didn't get very dark because it barely stayed on  long enough to even dry :-)

Haha, do you have a tattoo that says "kosher"? That's awesome!

I love henna too! Your designs are so nice! Nora also likes to have henna and also doesn't keep it on long enough for it to be dark. It's nice that no matter how ugly the thing is, she always says my drawings a beautiful :P

@Banana Anne, it doesn't say kosher! it says basar, nephesh, ruah, or body, soul, and spirit. You were close though :-) Do you have a Jewish background?

Nice.. I miss doing henna. Haven't had time & kind of afraid to attempt it w/ Kalila running around lol.

My mom is a secular Jew. Most of what I know about Judaism comes from me babysitting for an Orthodox Jewish family and going on chabad.org!

Isn't doing henna for yourself fun??
If you'd like to get together with a very large and very fabulous group of henna artists and have them teach you everything they know... join us at the Northeast Henna Gathering! We'd love to have you there!

Also, if you decide it's time to give professional grade henna a try (it's about $8 per 100g box - but soooooo worth it!!), you can get it here:

@Heather, Thanks so much for the advice and comment. I have seen your site from Jamilah's blog. I would like to invest in some better supplies soon so i can get better results.
I would love to come to the Henna gathering but its kind of a no go since I just moved to the west coast.
